Jimmy Gockel was born on March 16, 1957 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and is a member of the Cape Arts Council. Jimmy, a retiree of the US Air Force and disabled war veteran, took up art as a hobby back in 2015. He chose to attend Cape Career & Technology Center in Cape Girardeau to improve his skills and credits his art teacher, Travis Clayton for his success. Jimmy has had his work published in Southwest Art Magazine and AcrylicWorks, Northlight Books. His work has also been exhibited in over 50 national and international juried exhibitions to include London and Switzerland. Inspired by Andy Warhol and Peter Max, Jimmy is drawn to the 1960s psychedelic era of pop art with all its bold and bright colors which he often uses in his paintings.
