Of British nationality and having adopted France to live and work since 2001, Wayne Sleeth returns to his earliest passions in painting, discovered long before studying art in England; certain subjects in the lifework of Claude Monet. Since 2015 Sleeth has been re-interpreting the Nymphéas – Monet’s body of waterlily paintings – with spray-paint and marker pens, in an almost ‘street-artist’ manner, but working exactly as his mentor a century ago; at first ‘sur le motif’ in Giverny before elaborating his paintings in his studio in Lorraine. To date, approximately 200 pieces have come to light in this way.
Part of this passionate volume of work – some by way of commission – is destined for a new Brittany Ferries vessel, the ferry ‘Honfleur’, an impressive anglo-french project planned for 2020:
